IELTS preparation in Damascus

Raise your band score for study, work or migration with focused practice in all four skills, honest feedback on your Writing and Speaking, and timed mock tests under real conditions.

Why your IELTS band score matters

For many people in Damascus, IELTS is the door to the next step: a master's place at a university abroad, a professional registration, a job offer or a visa application. The institution on the other side usually asks for a specific overall band and often a minimum in each skill, and missing it by half a band can mean waiting and paying to sit again.

Good everyday English is not always enough. IELTS rewards particular habits: reading for detail under time pressure, organising an essay the way examiners expect, and speaking at length without freezing. Those habits can be taught, and that is where focused preparation makes the difference.

Your path to the score you need

  • Find out the exact score you need: check the overall band and any minimum per skill required by your university, employer or immigration programme, and whether they want Academic or General Training.
  • Take our placement test so we know your starting level in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
  • If your level is below what the test demands, build up first with General English B1, B2 or C1, or Academic English for university-bound learners.
  • Join IELTS Preparation, covering task types, strategies and timed practice for the module you need.
  • Sit full mock tests and review them with your trainer, focusing on the skill that holds your score down.
  • Book the official test at an IDP-listed venue in Damascus. The test fee is separate and paid to the test provider. You receive an Alalamia certificate when you complete our course.

How we teach it

Our IELTS classes are skills workshops, not lectures. Each Writing task you submit comes back with comments against the criteria examiners use, so you can see why an essay sits at one band and what would lift it. Speaking is practised in short, timed interviews that mirror the real test, because the main problem for most candidates is nerves and fluency, not grammar. For Listening and Reading, we train timing and question-type strategies until they become automatic.

Explanations can be given in Arabic when it helps, especially for lower levels, while every task, text and mock test is in English. You can study in person at Mazzeh Western Villas, join live online, or arrange private coaching if you have a deadline or need to improve one skill fast. Organisations sending staff abroad can book a private group.

  • In person at Mazzeh Western Villas, Damascus
  • Live online classes, convenient for learners outside the capital
  • Private one-to-one coaching for urgent deadlines or a single weak skill
  • Arabic support where it helps, with all practice in English

The test: where and how you sit it in Damascus

IELTS is offered in two versions: Academic, for university study and professional registration, and General Training, for work and migration. Both assess Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking and report a band score from 0 to 9, with the Speaking test held face to face with an examiner.

In Damascus, IELTS is held at official IELTS venues run by another organisation, not at Alalamia, and you book directly with the test provider. We do not sell test places, but we help you understand the booking steps, choose the right version and time your preparation so you sit the test when you are ready. If your target institution also accepts other tests, we can advise on alternatives such as the Duolingo English Test, which is taken online at home.
