Training for NGOs and development organisations

Practical, donor-ready training for programme, finance, HR and field teams, delivered in Damascus, at your office or live online.

Why NGOs train with us

Development and humanitarian teams work under real pressure: tight project cycles, demanding donors and staff spread across several locations. Since 2010, Alalamia for Professional Development has helped organisations in Syria build the skills their people need, with training that starts from your programmes and your context rather than from a generic outline.

We are a training company, not a consultancy. We do not design your projects, evaluate your programmes or write your proposals for you. We teach your teams to do these things well themselves, and we give you the records you need to show donors that capacity building has taken place.

  • Programmes shaped around your projects, roles and the level of your participants
  • Delivery in English, Arabic or both, with bilingual materials where you need them
  • Flexible formats for head office staff and field teams alike
  • Clear written quotes in USD, with instalments possible when agreed in writing
  • Donor-ready documentation as a standard part of every engagement

Packaged topics for development work

We combine courses from our catalogue into packages that suit the way NGOs work. Each package can run as a short workshop, a multi-day programme or a series of sessions spread over several weeks, and we adapt the examples and exercises to your sector.

Where a topic is linked to an external certification, our training prepares participants for it, and we explain the exam route clearly. Many exams, delivered through Pearson VUE and Prometric, can be sat at our Authorised Test Centre in Mazzeh, so your teams can certify without travelling; for others, we help candidates register through the awarding body's own route. Exam fees are separate and paid to the exam provider.

  • Project management for development projects, including preparation for the PMD Pro certification
  • Monitoring and evaluation: logical frameworks, indicators, data collection and learning from results
  • Proposal and report writing for donors, from concept notes to narrative reports
  • Finance for non-finance managers: budgets, budget tracking and working confidently with finance teams
  • HR and people management for programme and support staff
  • Leadership for programme managers: leading teams, managing stakeholders and making decisions under pressure
  • Data and reporting with Excel and Power BI, from clean spreadsheets to clear dashboards
  • Digital skills for everyday work, including safe and efficient use of online tools
  • Microsoft 365 for collaboration: Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word and Excel
  • Humanitarian quality standards awareness: the Core Humanitarian Standard and the Sphere standards as training topics

Donor-ready documentation

Donors and partners often ask for evidence that training has been delivered and has made a difference. We provide that evidence as part of the service, so your programme and grants teams do not have to build it afterwards.

Our own award is an Alalamia certificate, issued to participants who complete the programme. It records the training they attended and is not an external certification.

  • Signed attendance sheets for every session, in person or online
  • Alalamia certificates for participants who complete the programme
  • A training report covering objectives, content, attendance and participant feedback
  • Pre- and post-training assessments where you want to show progress
  • Documentation in English, Arabic or both

Delivery that reaches field teams

Your people are not always in one place, so our delivery is not either. We can train your teams at our centre in Damascus, at your own office, or live online, and we can combine these formats in one programme.

Live online sessions can be recorded, so staff who miss a session because of field work, connectivity or shift patterns can catch up and stay on track with the rest of the group.

  • At our centre in Damascus, Mazzeh Western Villas
  • At your office or another venue you choose
  • Live online classes with an instructor, with recordings available
  • Blended programmes that mix in-person and online sessions
