Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator Associate
The Information Protection Administrator Associate recognised administrators who turn an organisation's risk and compliance requirements into technical controls in Microsoft Purview, from classification, information protection and data loss prevention to records and data lifecycle management. It was held by compliance and Microsoft 365 administrators working with legal, security and governance teams.
It was earned through exam SC-400, often after Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals. Microsoft has retired the certification, and the role is now validated by the Information Security Administrator Associate, which covers the same Purview disciplines alongside protecting data used by AI services.

Where do you sit the exam? Exam retired
The awarding body has retired this exam, so it can no longer be booked. Ask us about the exam that replaced it.
Renewal and validity
While it was offered, the certification was valid for one year and renewed free through an online assessment on Microsoft Learn; with that assessment now retired, a certification already held can no longer be extended and lapses on its expiry date. To keep a current credential in this area, plan your move to an active Microsoft certification, and check the current policy on Microsoft Learn because requirements change.
