Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
The Azure Security Engineer Associate recognised engineers who implement and manage security for Azure, hybrid and multicloud resources, protecting identity, networks, compute, storage and data while maintaining security posture with Microsoft Defender for Cloud. It was held by security specialists working alongside architects and administrators.
It was earned through exam AZ-500, usually after Azure Fundamentals. Microsoft has retired the certification and its renewal assessment, and the role is now validated by the Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate; our Azure Security Technologies course (AZ-500T00) builds the core cloud security skills behind this role.

Renewal and validity
While it was offered, the certification was valid for one year and renewed free through an online assessment on Microsoft Learn; with that assessment now retired, a certification already held can no longer be extended and lapses on its expiry date. To keep a current credential in this area, plan your move to an active Microsoft certification, and check the current policy on Microsoft Learn because requirements change.
